From GPTZero To Hero?

With the rising use of ChatGPT and other AI tools by students, many educators within our District used TurnItIn which was integrated into the Canvas LMS by Instructure. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it was helpful to many in possibly identifying AI-generated submissions.

Sadly, there is no foolproof way of determining AI-generated submissions. False positives and as well as false negatives can often occur. It's only a percentage of likelihood. And you certainly can't confront a student accusing them of its use. But you can definitely use it as an opportunity to ask more critical and probing questions to ascertain the student's assignment.

A new tool, GPTZero, has emerged that is getting far better results. And the team behind it are young, and very diverse; a great example for many students to help them "see it, so they can be it."

When your online learning course is in an LMS, but then you have to take assignments out of it to do an AI check, many issues arise including:
