What Is ChatGPT Doing … and Why Does It Work?

I wouldn't say I'm an expert in the subject, but I've definitely used Machine Learning and Neural Networks in Python, which are some of the underlying technologies of ChatGPT.

This article by Stephen Wolfram, a noted expert, author, and technologist in the field, does an incredible job of explaining the science and tools that make ChatGPT work: including Machine Learning (including Deep Learning), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Neural Networks. It does get a bit technical, but it breaks it down with some great illustrations (like the one above) to better explain the technical wizardry behind generative AI.

You'll get a better understanding of how Training Data is crucial to Machine Learning and LLMs and can imagine why it has been so contentious that countless books, art, and other protected assets were used to make it and other AIs possible; without permission or compensation to the creators. After all, without that data, it wouldn't be as successful as it is.
